According to marketing agency NAPI, 48.1 thousand new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and 8.2 thousand new electric cars were sold in January-August 2026. Compared to the first 8 months of 2025, hybrid vehicle sales grew by 140.5%, while those of electric cars - by 22.3%.
Driven by the current fuel situation, PHEV sales experienced a large growth in July 2026, reaching 9.7 thousand units (+57.6% on June). Consequently, the PHEV market share in total car sales reached 8.0% in July. In August, sales slightly fell to 7.6 thousand units, with the market share reaching 6.7%. The summer months delivered the strongest performance since the beginning of the year.
Electric car sales also grew. In July, sales reached 1.5 thousand units (+122.4% on June), accounting for 1.3% of the total car sales. In August, the volume of electric cars sold made 2.2 thousand units (+44.6% on July), while their market share reached 2.0%.
Sales growth was visible in the used car market as well. In January-August 2026, 13.3 thousand hybrid vehicles (+37.0% on the first 8 months of 2025) and 11.6 thousand electric cars (+43.4%) were sold. Used electric cars and hybrid vehicles reached their year-to-date sales peak in July.
