18.08.2025 / The tractor unit market has fallen by almost 71%

According to the marketing agency NAPI, 8.7 thousand new tractor units were sold in January-July 2025, which was a 70.8% decline on the similar period of 2024. Although the restrictions introduced by Rosstandart in July have not yet had time to affect the market, its overall decline has led to a decrease in sales of Chinese brands, including Dongfeng (-71.3%), Sitrak (-75.5%) and FAW (-81.0%), which entered TOP-10. At the same time, the share of Russian vehicles traditionally grows during a market decline; it has doubled over a year. The share of KAMAZ, one of the leading Russian manufacturers, has grown by 10.4 p.p. over a year (to 20.2%). Despite the sanctions, European tractor units continue to be supplied; TOP-10 most popular brands include Swedish VOLVO and German MERCEDES-BENZ. It should be noted that a significant number of tractor units were sold in 2023-2024, so the demand for them has collapsed this year. Moreover, since the beginning of 2025, there has been a tendency for leasing companies to sell fresh used vehicles at the price lower than that offered by other market participants. Thus, it becomes more profitable for the consumer to buy a two- or three-year-old tractor unit instead of a new one.
