13.01.2026 / In which regions are new cars almost never purchased?

According to the marketing agency NAPI, 7.4 million cars were sold in January-December 2025. Of all cars purchased, 17.7% (1.3 million units) were new, while the remaining 82.3% (6.1 million units) were used.

Compared to 12 months of 2024, car sales decreased by 1.1%. Thus, new cars were sold 14.6% fewer, while used ones - 2.4% more. The share of new cars in total sales fell by 2.8 p.p.

Over the year, Moscow (32.3%), Saint Petersburg (28.5%), and the Samara region (27%) became the regions with the largest share of new cars purchased in Russia. Meanwhile, the Jewish Autonomous Region and the Kamchatka region accounted for less than 2% of new car sales. The share of used cars in TOP-10 regions where they were purchased most often is more than 96%.
