The marketing agency NAPI analyzed the average initial ownership periods for new cars in 2023-2025 among private owners. Thus, in 2023, drivers operated their cars for 63 months on average. In 2024, the average ownership period increased by 4.5 months. Over the first seven months of 2025, the average ownership period reached 69 months.

By July 2025, the initial ownership period for cars of German (83 months), Korean (79 months), French (89 months), Japanese (85 months), and Czech (81 months) brands increased. Meanwhile, the initial ownership period for Russian brands fluctuated, reaching 58 months by 2025. In 2022, new Chinese car models entered the market, leading to an active renewal of Chinese cars and, consequently, a reduction in the initial ownership period from 49 to 32 months.

The largest growth of the initial ownership periods from 2023 to 2025 was shown by KIA (+19 months to 77 months) and HYUNDAI (20 months to 78 months). Ownership periods for Russian cars also slightly increased: from 67 to 77 months for UAZ and from 57 to 58 months for LADA. Ownership periods for premium brands also grew, including BMW (+10 months to 63 months), Mercedes-Benz (+13 months to 70 months), and Audi (+22 months to 92 months).
