29.09.2025 / Average truck ownership periods have decreased by almost 20%

The marketing agency NAPI analyzed the average initial ownership periods for trucks in 2022-2025. Thus, in 2023, fleets operated trucks with GVW exceeding 6 tons for 49 months on average, tractor units - for 45 months, while dumpers - for 46 months. In 2024, the average ownership period in various market segments decreased by 4-8 months. Over the first seven months of 2025, the average ownership period for trucks with GVW exceeding 6 tons fell to 41 months, for tractor units - to 34 months, while for dumpers - to 37 months. The main reason is the early withdrawal of vehicles from leasing contracts.

In January-July of the current year, the initial ownership periods for trucks of Italian (70 months), Korean (68 months), French (62 months), Japanese (61 months), and Dutch (53 months) brands increased. Meanwhile, the ownership period for Russian brands remains unchanged in 2024 — 54 months. The longest average ownership period this year among tractor units was shown by Japanese brands (104 months), while among dumpers - by Italian brands (96 months). Since 2022, fleets have begun to more actively purchase and operate Chinese trucks, with the ownership period reaching 19 months.

In 2022, 25.2 new Chinese trucks were sold to corporate clients, of which 16.51% entered the used vehicle market in the same year, and 32.96% in the period from 2022 to July 2025. In 2023, 85,1 trucks were sold, with 18.52% entering the used vehicle market by the end of 2025, and in 2024 - 74,1 trucks and 9.83%. Since the beginning of the current year, 14,3 new Chinese trucks have been purchased, with a resale share of 2.38%.
