10.04.2026 / What is the actual share of Chinese cars in the Russian market

The marketing agency NAPI analyzed sales of new cars of Russian, Chinese and other foreign brands in January-March 2026. Compared to the similar period last year, the market grew by 8.0%. In January-March of the current year, 261.1 thousand cars were sold.

Two market segments showed decline. The segment of cars of traditional Russian brands decreased by 17.3%, sales amounted to 64.7 thousand units. Cars of traditional Russian brands accounted for 24.8% in January-March (-7.6 p.p.). The segment of Chinese imported cars fell more sharply – by 45.5%, 53.3 thousand units were sold over three months. The share of Chinese cars imported into Russia was 20.4% (-20.1 p.p.).

At the same time, sales of cars of new Russian brands increased significantly – by 312.8% to 39.6 thousand units. Their share grew from 4.0% to 15.2% over the year. Sales of imported cars (excluding those of Chinese brands and BELGEE) were up by 165.6% to 38.9 thousand units, accounting for 14.9% of the market (+8.8 p.p.). Sales of cars of the BELGEE brand, which also belongs to the segment of imported foreign cars, increased by 105.4% and amounted to 12.8 thousand units. BELGEE share grew by 2.3 p.p. to 4.9%. Moreover, the segment of foreign-brand cars manufactured in Russia increased by 47.7%. Sales amounted to 51.7 thousand units, the share was 19.8% (+5.3 p.p.).

Total sales of all Chinese cars (imported, manufactured in Russia, those of new Russian brands created in partnership with Chinese automakers, and BELGEE) grew by 7.3% to 152.0 thousand units in January-March 2026. The share of these cars in the Russian market decreased by 0.4 p.p. and amounted to 58.2%.

Sales of all cars manufactured in Russia (new, those of traditional brands, foreign cars manufactured in Russia) amounted to 156.0 thousand units, having shown a 26.9% increase over the year. Their share grew by 9.0 p.p. and reached 59.8%. Sales of all imported cars decreased by 11.6% and amounted to 105.0 thousand units. Their share fell by 9 p.p. to 40.2%.
