DownloadIn January-August 2020, new car sales in money terms decreased by 3.4% and amounted to 1 538 billion rubles.
Negative dynamics of the market revenue was caused by a 12% drop in demand for new cars in Russia.

New car market
In January-August 2020, Moscow residents were leaders by money spent on new cars – 314.6 billion rubles. At the same time, in January-August 2019, they spent 17% more money on new cars. Over 120 billion rubles were spent on new cars by residents of Saint Petersburg and the Moscow region.
Seven regions showed positive dynamics of the market revenue.

Following results of eight months of 2020, the best financial result belongs to KIA. For the reporting period, Russians spent 164.8 billion rubles on the cars of this brand – 8.9% less year-on-year. The second place by financial results is occupied by TOYOTA, new car sales of which in money terms amounted to 145.7 billion rubles (-7.4%). MERCEDES-BENZ also entered TOP-3 by the market revenue with a result of 138.3 billion rubles (+3.2%).
Several TOP-15 brands showed positive dynamics of financial results. This dynamics of SKODA and PORSCHE brands was caused not only by rising rice increase, but increase in demand for these cars for the reporting period. The growth in the BMW financial results was due to significant increase in weighted average prices due to change in the brand's sales structure: increase in the share of the most expensive models against the background of the decrease in the share of the cheapest ones. MERCEDES-BENZ, LEXUS and AUDI increased their financial results due to rising prices.
Despite the increase in recommended retail prices for VOLKSWAGEN cars, their weighted average price fell by 0.6% caused by change in the brand's sales structure: increase in the share of the cheapest model against the background of the decrease in the share of the most expensive ones.

Used car market
Moscow is the absolute leader in terms of the market revenue among Russian regions. Over the first eight months of 2020, used cars on 173.0 billion rubles were sold in the capital. A significant amount – over 90 billion rubles - was spent on used cars by residents of Saint Petersburg and the Moscow region.
Most of TOP-15 regions showed positive dynamics of the market revenue. It should be noted that only the Irkutsk region sales increased both in quantitative and money terms.

In January-August 2020, TOYOTA was the leader in the used car market: Russians spent 274.5 billion rubles on cars of this brand. It was followed by LADA and MERCEDES-BENZ. For the reporting period, Russians purchased LADA cars on 178.4 billion rubles, MERCEDES-BENZ - on 164.7 billion rubles.
Most of TOP-15 brands showed positive dynamics of financial results. Moreover, four brands increased sales in quantitative terms – BMW, KIA, RENAULT and LEXUS.
