According to Russian Automotive Market Research, in April 2020 3.97 thousand financial leasing1 contracts for vehicles and trailers were signed, which was a 72% decline on April 20192.
In April 2020 4.47 thousand vehicles and trailers were transferred to financial leasing – by 71% less year-on-year.

In April 2020 the number of leased vehicles decreased by 87%, cars - by 81%, light commercial vehicles and trucks – by 68% and 54%, respectively on April 2019,. Trailers and semi-trailers showed the minimum decline (16%).

Microenterprises accounted for largest share of leased vehicles and trailers in April 2020 among lessees - 49% (52% in April 2019). In April 2020, shares of small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as individual entrepreneurs/individuals increased.

Private-owned leasing companies accounted for 95% of leased vehicles and trailers in April 2020 (91% in April 2019). Foreign-owned companies accounted for 2.4% of leasing vehicles and trailers, which is half as much as in April 2019.

The main lessees of vehicles and trailers in April 2020 were companies engaged in transportation of goods and passengers by land. In April 2019, the largest lessees of this type of vehicle were companies specializing in wholesale trade.

Special purpose vehicles
The number of leasing contracts for special purpose vehicles in April 2020 decreased by 39% on April 2019 and amounted to 0.79 thousand units.
In April 2020, 0.86 thousand special purpose vehicles were transferred to financial leasing, which was a 43% decline on April 2019.

In April 2020, the number of leased road construction vehicles decreased by 43% year-on-year. Other types of special purpose vehicles showed a similar decline.

The main lessees of special purpose vehicles in April 2020 were micro-enterprises - 36% (33% in April 2019). In April 2020, shares of small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as individual entrepreneurs/individuals increased.

In April 2020, the largest lessees of special purpose vehicles were private-owned companies with a share of 92% (85% in April 2019). Foreign-owned companies accounted for another 4% of leased special purpose vehicles (5% in April 2019).

Companies engaged in crop production took the first place among lessees of special purpose vehicles in April 2020. Companies specializing in residential and non-residential construction, infrastructure construction and wholesale trade also had significant shares.
