29.04.2020 / The number of leased commercial vehicles is falling

Russian Automotive Market Research has already reported on sales of cars and buses under financial leasing in the first quarter of 2020. Now RAMR specialists calculated how many trucks and light commercial vehicles were leased over the same period.

Trucks

According to Russian Automotive Market Research, in January-March 2020, 5.7 thousand financial leasing¹ contracts for trucks were signed, which was a 20% decrease on the same period of 2019².

In the first quarter of 2020, 7.2 thousand trucks were transferred to financial leasing, which was a 34% decline year-on-year.

In January-March 2020, slightly more than 28% of leased trucks were KAMAZ vehicles. In January-March 2019, the share of KAMAZ vehicles in financial leasing was 47%.

VOLVO vehicles accounted for another 23% of leased trucks in 2020 (21% in 2019).

The list of TOP-3 most in-demand leased trucks also included MAN vehicles.

As for lessees, the largest share of trucks leased in January-March 2020 fell on microenterprises - 43% (36% in January-March 2019).

In the first quarter of 2020, small and large enterprises accounted for 26% and 16% of leased trucks, respectively.

LCV

According to Russian Automotive Market Research, 3.2 thousand financial leasing contracts for LCV were concluded in January-March 2020, which was a 18% decrease year-on-year.

In the first quarter of 2020, 3.3 thousand light commercial vehicles were purchased under financial leasing, which was a 26% decline on the same period of 2019.

GAZ vehicles are in the greatest demand among lessees: in January-March 2020, their share was 48% (54% in January-March 2019).

The Russian Lada is strengthening its position in leasing: in January-March 2020, its share was 11% against 2% in January-March 2019.

UAZ light commercial vehicles with a share of 11% retained the third place.

As for lessees, the largest share of LCV leased in January-March 2020 fell on microenterprises – 50%.

Small businesses accounted for one quarter of leased light commercial vehicles in 2020.
