23.04.2026 / Russian brands account for almost a third of car leasing
At the same time, the business is already leasing almost two thirds of new cars
According to Gazprombank Autoleasing and the marketing agency NAPI, in January-March 2026, the new and used car leasing market* increased by 8.0% in quantitative terms year-on-year. The segment of used car leasing continues to show the outstripping growth – a 41.0% rise on the quarter year-on-year. The total share of leasing in corporate sales, as well as the share of Russian brands in leasing also continue to grow.
In January-March 2026, business representatives leased 32.1 thousand cars (22.9 thousand new and 9.2 thousand used), while in the similar period of 2025, 29.7 thousand cars (23.2 thousand new and 6.5 thousand used) were leased.
Thus, the number of cars leased grew by 8.0% on the first quarter of 2025. At the same time, the segment of new car leasing decreased by 1.3%, while that of used cars increased by 41.0%. As a result, the share of used car segment in the new business was up from 22% to 30%.
Over the first three months of 2026, the share of leasing in corporate new car sales reached 63.5% (+6.1 p.p.). The share of leasing in used car sales was 32.3% (+7.9 p.p.).
Leasing of Chinese cars (excluding BELGEE) fell by 1.5% over the year, its share decreased to 45.7% (-4.4 p.p.). Leasing of Russian brands showed a 16.9% growth, its share increased to 31.3% (+2.4 p.p.). Leasing of the Belarusian BELGEE cars almost doubled, its share reached 8.5% (+3.9 p.p.).
In January-March, the business was most active in leasing LADA (22.8% share), BELGEE (8.5%), HAVAL (8.4%), CHERY (6.1%) and TENET (5.7%) brand cars. TOP-10 also included GEELY, TANK, FAW, VOYAH and HONGQI. The negative dynamics in leasing was shown by LADA (-1.0%), CHERY (-20%) and GEELY (-39.3%) brands. Leasing of FAW (+788.8%), VOYAH (+181.3%) and HONGQI (+190.9%) brands increased significantly.
The TOP-5 list of the most popular leasing models among corporate clients included LADA GRANTA, BELGEE X50, HAVAL JOLION, LADA LARGUS, and LADA VESTA. The following places in TOP 10 were occupied by CHERY ARRIZO 8, TENET T4, TENET T7, LADA NIVA TRAVEL, and FAW BESTUNE T77. All models, except LADA LARGUS (-29.7%), showed positive dynamics of leasing.
"The only segment to show leasing growth in the first quarter of 2026 is cars. Leasing of light commercial vehicles, trucks, semi-trailers, and buses decreased. Positive dynamics in the car leasing is primarily due to increase in the leasing of used cars. A significant share in the used leasing segment is occupied by "fresh" cars manufactured in 2023 and 2024. Their price is significantly lower than that for new ones, despite the fact that the resource is still quite large," said Tatyana Arabadzhi, General Director at the marketing agency NAPI.
"The overall results of the quarter as a whole indicate that auto leasing in the car segment continues a cautious recovery. At the same time, the market is still quite complex, and in April sales will most likely not catch up with the performance of productive April 2025, when 15.9 thousand cars were leased," Nikolai Fomin, Sales Director at Gazprombank Automotive Leasing, commented on the quarter results. - At the same time, the demand for used cars in the second quarter will still be high. The share of used cars in leasing will begin to decline as the key rate decreases and the pent-up demand for new cars from businesses is realized against this background, as well as the gradual sales and decrease in the volume of market stocks of cars seized from leasing companies. This is likely to happen at a key rate of 12% or lower."
