18.12.2025 / How stocks are putting pressure on the semi-trailer and tractor unit market

The marketing agency NAPI analyzed sales of new and used semi-trailers in January-November 2025. Over the first 11 months of the current year, 72.6 thousand new and used semi-trailers were sold, which was a 30.1% decline on the similar period of 2024. Purchase of new vehicles fell by 59.8%, while that of used ones - by 7.8%.

TONAR (3.03 thousand units), BONUM (1.13 thousand units), and CENTERTRANSTEKHMASH (0.95 thousand units) new semi-trailers became sales leaders in January-November 2025. Vehicles of 2025 model year  account for about 60% of sales of these brands, while last year, the share of vehicles was 36-38%. In 2024, the share of semi-trailers exceeds 80% of GRUNWALD, TUYMAZINSKY PLANT and KRONE vehicle sales. Among TOP-10 brands, vehicles produced in 2025 (49.2%) showed the largest sales, while sales of vehicles produced in 2024 were slightly less (47.9%). However, in the total sales volume, the largest share was made up by vehicles produced in 2024 - 55.1%. Vehicles produced in 2025 accounted for 40.4%, while those produced in 2023 - 4.5%. At the same time, in 2024, the situation was different: vehicles produced in 2024 accounted for 71.6% of sales, while vehicles produced in 202 - only 27.5%. In addition, in 2025, sales of vehicles manufactured two years ago increased to 4.5%. Last year, less than 1% of such vehicles was sold.

As for sales of new tractor units, it should be noted that 14 thousand units were sold in January-November 2025, which was a 70.5% decline on 2024. Following results of 11 months of 2024, vehicles produced in the same year accounted for 40.8%, while in 2025 their share fell to 15.6%. It is interesting to note that this year, the import and production of tractor units decreased, as the market is under pressure from 2024 and 2023 stock. In January-November 2025, vehicles produced last year accounted for 62.8% of sales and tractor units produced in 2023 - 21.6%. Over the similar period of 2024, the share of sales of vehicles produced last year was slightly lower (58.6%).

Sales of new semi-trailers and tractor units by year of manufacture in January-November 2025 are similar. Vehicles produced in 2024 account for the bulk of sales. The share of vehicles produced in the same year in sales significantly decreased, while that of vehicles produced in 2023, on the contrary, grew.

TONAR vehicles produced in 2023 were leaders in used semi-trailer sales in January-November 2025, accounting for 1.9% of total sales. TOP-10 also included TONAR vehicles produced in 2021 and 2022, SCHMITZ vehicles produced in 2006, 2007, 2018, and 2021, and KRONE vehicles produced in 2007, 2018, and 2021.
