The agency Russian Automotive Market Research analyzed the car leasing market for four months of 2021.

In January-April 2021, a total of 56.3 cars were issued for financial and operational leasing, which was a 78% rise year-on-year. Of them new ones – 50.9 thousand units, which was a 75% growth on the results of the similar period of 2020.

In January-April 20211, 52.3 thousand new and used cars were transferred to financial leasing, which was a 85% rise on the result of the similar period of 20202. Of them 46.9 thousand new cars were transferred, which was a 78% growth year-on-year.

The equity participation of various lessees in financial leasing transactions changed. The share of individuals increased by 5% to 8%, while that of sole proprietors among lessees also showed growth (+1%). The share of companies with state participation, on the contrary, fell from 10% to 4%. At the same time, the joint share of other companies remained unchanged and amounted to 76% (see Fig. 1).

In January-April 2021, 4.03 thousand new and used cars were transferred to operational leasing, which was a 23% rise on the similar period of the last year (see Fig. 2). Of them new cars accounted for 3.98 thousand units (+45% on January-April 2021) (see Fig. 4).

Following results of January-April 2021, the share of operational leasing in the new car leasing fell by 1.6% and amounted to 7.8% (see Fig. 5).

Over the first four months of 2021, the share of leased cars3 in new corporate car sales grew by 11.9% and amounted to 61.6% (see Fig. 6).
