GC Modern Transport Technologies and the Smarteco special purpose vehicle plant presented a universal dropside tow truck on the Valdai 12 chassis with a crane manipulator unit (CMU). The vehicle is equipped with a 16 m long boom, which makes it possible to lift loads to a height of up to 17 m — such parameters significantly expand the use of the truck in urban conditions.
Such superstructure in the form of a special dropside platform paired with the CMU turns the Valdai 12 into a multipurpose vehicle: it can be operated as an ordinary dropside truck with the function of self-loading and unloading, and if necessary, as a universal tow truck adapted for transporting any cars (including after an accident) over any distance.
The dropside platform has dimensions of 6,200 x 2,550 x 600 mm and is equipped with an elongated and reinforced rear overhang, steel frame, and sides with rubber bumpers. The crane manipulator unit consists of 6 retractable boom sections (steps). The maximum load capacity is 5,000 kg at a 2.4 m departure, the minimum is 250 kg at a 15.5 m departure. Lifting to a height of up to 17 m and lowering to a depth of up to 15 m expand the functionality of the model.
