KAMAZ is working to expand the line-up of gas-powered vehicles and buses. The liquefied natural gas model is also available in the latest K5 range of vehicles: in February of this year, the company produced 20 KAMAZ-54901 LNG vehicles, and production rates are increasing.
KAMAZ-54901 CNG tractor unit (meets the ADR requirements, which allows the transportation of dangerous goods) is a gas–powered version of the flagship K5 generation vehicle. In this modification, the vehicle with index 54901 is equipped with KAMAZ R6 (Euro-5) gas engine capacity of 460 HP, an automatic gear box and two cryotanks holding 1,060 liters of liquefied natural gas. The use of LNG can significantly reduce the fuel costs with a range of up to 1,600 km with one refuel.
Production of the gas-powered version of the vehicle started in September 2024. Last year, the company produced the first 200 trucks of this version. By the middle of 2025, KAMAZ intends to increase production rates: in the summer and autumn months, it is planned to produce more than 100 KAMAZ-54901 LNG vehicles per month. The truck is assembled on the main assembly line of the automobile plant in a single production stream and is equipped with special equipment in the gas-powered vehicles building, opened at the company in 2015. The production plan for 2025 is more than 700 units.
