According to technical specifications of KAMAZ PTC, engineers from Tolyatti State University (TSU) have created an original domestic solution – a primary retarder (aquatarder) for heavy-duty vehicles.
On August 20-21, a ready-made engineering unit developed at TSU successfully passed acceptance tests as part of an engine at a specialized stand of KAMAZ PTC in Naberezhnye Chelny. Braking power indicators of the aquatarder engine recorded by sensors fully confirmed the correctness of mathematical calculations of the Tolyatti designers and compliance with the requirements of the technical specifications offered by the leading Russian engineering company: braking power, smoothness of characteristics, thermal conditions - everything worked normally, confirming a serious margin for scaling.
The project was implemented by the Tolyatti University at the facilities of the "HybridTech" Advanced Engineering School. The university's designers analyzed existing imported analogues and developed their own promising hydrodynamic architecture. The unit runs directly on the engine coolant instead of oil, which significantly reduces its weight and makes it maintenance-free.
The unique design has already been legally protected. An application has been submitted to Rospatent for registration and protection of an intellectual property object, where the patent holder is KAMAZ PTC, and Vladimir Maksimenko and Evgeny Kalney, TSU specialists, are among the authors.
