New car sales reached 1.7 trillion rubles in money terms

Russian Automotive Market Research

According to Russian Automotive Market Research, over the first nine months of 2020, new car sales in money terms decreased by 1.1% and amounted to 1 778 billion rubles. Negative dynamics of the market revenue was caused by a 10% drop in demand for new cars in Russia.

Following results of the first nine months of 2020, the best financial result belongs to KIA. For the reporting period, Russians spent 192.7 billion rubles on cars of this brand, which was a 5.8% decline year-on-year. The second place by financial results is occupied by TOYOTA, new car sales of which in money terms amounted to 164.7 billion rubles (-7.1%). MERCEDES-BENZ also entered the top three in terms of the market revenue with a result of 161.5 billion rubles (+5.4%).

Several TOP-15 brands showed positive dynamics of financial results. This dynamics of BMW, SKODA, AUDI and PORSCHE was caused not only by rising prices, but by increase in demand for these cars for the reporting period. The growth in financial results of HYUNDAI and MERCEDES-BENZ was due to increase in weighted average prices caused by changes in the brand sales structure: increase in the share of the most expensive models against the background of the decrease in the share of the cheapest ones.
