Kaizen-electric trolley modernization project was implemented at KAMAZ

A project aimed at improving the efficiency of operation of an electric trolley was implemented in the metal cutting building of the KAMAZ Forge Plant. According to Ilnar Akhiyarov, Deputy Head Of The Floor Transport Workshop, the kaizen project primarily meant saving electricity, as well as improving the control system of the electric trolley - for smooth and easy movement.

The vehicle transports the stamping equipment to the metal cutting building, and, in addition, enters the stamping and tooling building. The electric trolley can carry up to three tons and reach a speed of 22 km/h. It travels up to 50 km per shift. One charge at a normal driving pace is enough for a week. To drive this vehicle, drivers were trained at the KAMAZ Multifunctional Centre of Applied Qualifications of Mechanical Engineering.

Due to the vehicle modernization, the battery consumption fell by 25-30%. The trolley has become more maintainable – now it is not required to undergo quarterly maintenance, since there are no burning elements left in it. Smooth starts via the traction motor control unit eliminate electrolyte boiling and plate destruction at peak loads.
