On June 5, 2024, on the day of the start of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, Sergey Kogogin, CEO of KAMAZ PTC, assessed the effectiveness of commercial transportation in unmanned mode by driving an unmanned KAMAZ long-haul tractor unit along the M-11 Neva federal highway. The total length of the route, where long-haul tractor units operate, is 650 km. Sergey Kogogin made a trip from Vologda to Saint Petersburg - along one of the sections of this route. As a result, KAMAZ long-haul tractor unit delivered the Wildberries cargo to the sorting center in Saint Petersburg.
The digital long-haul tractor unit, which the KAMAZ head drove, has been carrying out cargo transportation between Moscow and Saint Petersburg for a year as part of the road train with a semi-trailer. The vehicle was created on the basis of KAMAZ-54901 long-haul tractor unit. The model is equipped with KAMAZ 910.10-550 six-cylinder inline engine displacement of 12 liters. The wheel arrangement is 4x2. As additional options, the truck is equipped with communication, navigation, technical vision, and incoming information processing systems: in particular, 2D and 3D lidars with an interface unit, an all-round camera, various antennas (VHF, LTE, Wi-Fi), a navigation antenna, a computing unit and other components are installed. The brake and steering systems, engine and automatic gear box are controlled using an electronic CAN-bus.
