01.06.2023 / Is Kazakhstan a new competitor of the Russian automotive industry?

In May 2023, the Kazakh company Astana Motors received the right to manufacture Chery, Haval and Changan cars at a multi-brand plant under construction in Almaty. The production is scheduled to begin in 2025.

The marketing agency NAPI analyzed the sales of cars assembled in Kazakhstan in Russia. In 2022, 13.7 thousand new cars manufactured in Kazakhstan were sold, while over 4 months of the current year – already 10.6 thousand units. These are mainly HYUNDAI, KIA, JAC, and CHEVROLET cars. It is interesting to note that over 4 months of 2023, more Kazakhstan JAC cars were sold than over the whole last year. The cars that will be manufactured at the new plant in Almaty beginning 2025 are likely to be actively supplied to the Russian market.
