02.06.2023 / Is it really cheaper to own an electric car?

More and more companies are considering buying electric cars for their fleets.

The marketing agency NAPI compared the total cost of ownership (TCO) of various electric cars and cars equipped with internal combustion engines in Moscow at 30,000 km of mileage per year. Comparison conditions: the car is bought by a legal entity at its own expense, the costs include the car depreciation, transport tax, state duty, the cost of all maintenance (spare parts and work), the cost of current repair (spare parts and work), tires, tire fitting, MTPL, hull insurance, fuel cost, and charging cost – 16 rubles per 1 kW. The calculation was made for 3 and 5 years of car ownership.

Calculations have shown that with a comparable price of an electric car and a car equipped with internal combustion engine, the total cost of electric car ownership turns out to be lower. If the electric car is significantly cheaper than a traditional car, the savings per km of mileage can reach 7-9 rubles.
